Chaos Covers

For all the CVC posse... I've just created a folder on the shared webspace for the new Covers project. Please post all proposed covers here to avoid repeat tracks.

Addendum:

Just thought I'd post a note here to explain what Foggy's on about in the note above. The next CVC project is "CVC Covers". Like the Christmas project, anyone associated with CVC can take part. The idea is to cover a song or piece of music by another CVC group or musician. Only rules are:

No repeat tracks.
No remakes of your own tunes.

Any further suggestions, please direct your commentary to the comments section. I thank you!

Karl

I'm halfway through my first track - a cover of Rabbit Clutch's Black Pudding / World Without Mirrors.

OK - First Track Done - Black Pudding is up on the webspace.

Hear the original track on the Rabbit Clutch

I'm going to have a bash at "The Hammer" a Kips tune performed by various incarnations of his band. Will also do a Gibs track - not decided which one yet.

Black Pudding / World Without Mirrors track updated on webspace (version 2.0) - I think that's gonna be the final version but never say never!!

Tom is doing "Sitting on the Stairs Eating Weetabix", by Webfoot and Karcass...

Got some ideas about what Kipz and Jeff are thinking of.

Jeff wants to do 'Song about Nothing' by GWF.

Kipz is thinking of doing 'Adventures' by Gibs and also a couple of very early GWF titles from the first album which he doesn't know the titles of at this point!

Also he may do a cover of a Jeff Lawson song called 'All these years of Peace' with Rabbit Clutch.

I've had a cup of tea spilt on my PowerBook, and now the headphone jack won't work so I can't say when/if I'll be able to take part in this... Yours Sadly, Jason.

Where's Jussy?

Fog said...

I mentioned this to Jussy the other day - he's pretty busy but I think we might squeeze a track or two out of him.

He said he was going to listen to some tracks from the site and see if any took his fancy.

I'm thinking of doing a version of 'Astral Projection' by Jase - it featured on CVC3.

I've also just been inspired to a cover of Spirits of the Sea by Extra Terrestrial Runnerbeans - Sound scape mania..

Fog said...

Sorry wrong track - I meant Spectres in the Wind ;-)

Astral Projection is an interesting track to do. Turn your headphones to 11 cos' there's lots of barely audible low frequencies.
I'm interested to see the outcome on that one!

If I can get my computer to behave, I'm going to do "The Magic Chair" by The Bricks (or was it GWF?) dunno...

Also an interpretation of "Robot Monster" from Foggy's recent Secret Journey album.

Karl, if you want to do a Gibs track, might I suggest Field in Cornwall?

Fog said...

Hi Jase - Cool Robot Monster - interesting choice!

Yeah, i'm very familiar with all the low frequency stuff on 'Astral Projection' so they will be represented on the new version. By the way, do you happen to have the original tape that the samples came from for the track, i'm tracking it down on-line at the moment but if you have it could you post it up to me?

Finally, the second 0=2 track is up on the server - Spectres in the Wind by ETR.

Ciao!

By the way - would you like me to upload the original movie samples for Robot Monster for you to mess with?

Jasonhodge@mac.com said...

I've already got the robot monster samples from a vid on YouTube - cheers.

I've changed my mind about "The Magic Chair" - think I might do "Not All There", still undecided.

Jasonhodge@mac.com said...

Unfortunately I don't have the original samples - it was all put in to a quartet sample set. The voice sample were taken from a kind of self hypnosis tape - not sure where it came from but I'm sure I gave it back... Might have been Ben's.

Fog said...

"Not All There" ay? Are you going to do all the mad Monty Python style warbling insanity version or the quite locked away in the cupboard under the sink version?

The samples from AP came from a New Age tape on Astral Projection - I don#t have it anymore but you can get the book (supposedly with tape) pretty cheap on line --- i'm just trying to find one that includes the tape.

Sampling from the original track is a bit limiting but i'll do it if I can't get hold of the tape.

Fog said...

BTW i've uploaded them samples to the server anyway 2 of them come from different films: Mesa of Lost Women & Teenagers from Space(or summin like that - samples called teenager anyway).

"The Magic Chair" was a GWF song - from the first GWF tape.

I think there are THREE versions of "Not All There"... The mad GWF version, a quieter Fishhat version and my solo, drunken version.

Jasonhodge@mac.com said...

I'll just do my own version!

Fog said...

Just purchased the tape / book of 'Astral Projection' from ebay so expect a phat new reworking with hiss free samples!

Jasonhodge@mac.com said...

My breath is well and truly baited.

I just had a brain storm.

This CD should be accompanied by a companion compilation featuring the original versions of the covered tunes - shouldn't it? Cleaned up a little bit perhaps for CD.

Nice.

Fog said...

Well - I thought that we definately should do that on the website so you have the new versions all on the left of the screen and the originals on the right. I suppose we could do a CD as well - what does everyone else think?

Karl Hodge said...

This project seems to have run out of steam a wee bit before it's started...

Might be best to stick a deadline on it. I propose Tuesday May the 1st for all tracks to be finished. Everyone agree?

Was in The Sair last week and Kips said he'd recorded a GWF medley (which was actually a GWF/Fishhat/Jon Jugulation medley) and Banana Tig... which he played there and then on the pub guitar while grinning manically at us...

Fog said...

Hi - Y'all - I'm back in the meatmarket for a while - 9 till 6 - but i've allready done 2 songs so I guess that doesn't mattter!! Got the Astral Projection tape so i'm prepared for the last number - I also thought that a possibility of a Fog and Ebs track could be I look to the Future by E-motive but I'llwait and see if anyone else does any more tracks first!

Karl Hodge said...

I will definitely be doing two tracks at least. I'm leaning towards a swamp blues (Karl Karkass) version of "Flapjack" for my Gibs contribution... Fret not.
